Onions are packed with nutrients. They are low in calories but high in vitamins and minerals. Onions are loaded with anti-oxidants, may boost bone density, good for digestive health, and many more.
Onions are also known as pyaaz in Hindi and Kanda in Maharashtra, dungri in Gujarat, etc. we can use onions in salads, in different sabzis or onion itself can be one dish as the main ingredient.
So here, I have prepared this dish in which onion is the main ingredient; but in Dhaba style which tastes spicy and soothing both but with the spicy taste of green chilies and a bit sweetness of cooked onions.
This dish requires very few and common ingredients available at our home on a daily basis. So quickly let's start the recipe.
Dhaba Style Pyaaz ki Sabzi in 3 Easy Steps:
Preparation Time: 5 mins
Cooking Time: 15 mins
Servings: 2 people
Ingredients: (1 cup = 200ml)
- Onions (diced): 3
- Green chilies: 1-2
- Bay leaf (Tej patta): 1-2
- Fresh Malai: 1/2 cup
- Ghee: 2 tsp (optional)
- Oil: 3 tbsp
- Mustard seeds (Rai): 1/4 tsp
- Cumin seeds (jeera): 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder (Haldi): 1/2 tsp
- Red chili powder (Lal Mirch): 3/4 tsp
- Coriander powder (Dhania): 1,1/2 tbsp
- Garam masala: 1/4 tsp
- Asafoetida (Hing): 1/8 tsp
- Salt: As per taste
- Water: 1/4 cup
Method:
Step 1:
Heat some oil in the Kadhai. Once the oil is heated, add rai to it. When rai begins to splutter, add jeera, hing, green chilies, and tejpatta to it and cook for 1 min on low flame.
Step 2:
Now add diced onion and salt to it. Cover the kadhai with plate/lid and cook for 1 min again (till onions become pink).
Now add, haldi, Lal Mirch, Dhania powder, and garam masala to it. Mix well & cook them for 2-3 mins on low-medium flame or till oil is separated from sabzi.
Step 3:
When onions and masala are cooked and finally done, switch off the stove flame and let it cool down till you can touch the kadhai easily. Now add malai, water, and ghee(optional). Mix well. Switch on the flame and cook for 4-5 mins on medium flame. Adjust the salt.
Step 4:
Our pyaaz ki sabzi is ready. Garnish it with freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
Notes:
- You can add sugar/ honey also around 1-2 tsp.
- Water is optional, if you want to liquify extra then add more water.
- Dhaba Style Pyaaz ki Sabzi is best served hot and you can pair it with missi roti/butter nan or lachcha paratha. Serve hot
